First time using wood, different finishes and liners

You may want to look at Minwax, polycrylic finishes.
Their a water based finish, that dries fairly quickly, and has given me no problems with any wood to date

But at least I got a shave out of it.

This pair I decided to try to match them perfect for the bookmatch... Boy does it look cool, it was tough to get the two Lind up perfectly. Glad I did too because it looks sweet!

I agree, very cool. I'm very new to straights but I have a thing for wood. I'm going to have to get some wood scales on my next razor.

Thanks! I've been making scales for some times and for whatever reason I never used wood up until the last week. I ended up buying about $300 worth of different woods and now I'm playing with it. I cannot believe I did without for so long, now I can hardly get out of the shop... Here a pic of some of the wood

Are you doing the stabilization, or did you buy it that way?

Complete noob question but when you buy wood that is dyed like this is the coloring just at surface level or does it penetrate the wood? If it penetrates how far can it enter the wood?

So the bandsaw I had wasn't good a re-sawing so I figured I had to buy an expensive bandsaw before I got good cuts. So stabilizing was out of the question since I couldn't cut the pieces in 1/8. Buuuut I recently bought a Milwaukee portable deep cut bandsaw to cut my razor blanks out with. I tried to re-saws some buffalo horn and for the first time I was able to get a straight cut!

I bought the 2 stage 5 CFM vacuum pump and cactus juice. Next I need to build the vacuum chamber and buy a planer. So I got some work to do but I think in the end I'll be saving a ton of money by buying blocks of the wood vs pieces.... I have ways to go but it's in motion
