Thread: full hollow blade to polish with a buffing machine

hi folks,

the site goes down sometimes or it's me? i can not connect in night time

otherwise i've got a question about the final polish of a full hollow blade. as you know, buffing machine's wheels are bigger than dremel's wheels, so i can't be sure if i need to hold blade horizontal or vertical . may i have some advice to finish my blade without damage it?

It depends on your wheel size, I do both. I normally use 4 inch wheels, but have some 6 and 8 inch sewn and lose wheels.

On large sewn wheels and some very hollow razors, you will have to hold the blade at an angle, about 45 degrees from horizontal, to get the wheel in the hollow.

It is for this reason that I use single ½ inch thick wheels, and not gang them up.

I like to finish on a clean, loose cotton wheel.

3" wheels work very well for hollow ground razors, but 2" are the best.

Yes! I love my 2" wheels for hollow grinds. I have some 1.5" wheels too. I have a small machine with tapered spindles.

I don't know, I would be very leery of putting a full hollow blade to a buffing wheel-maybe on my 1750 rpm one with a smaller wheel, but never on the 3500! Maybe it's just me-I learned once what can happen when a delicate piece gets turned into a missile with one wrong move on a buffer.

it comes with experience I guess. The smaller the wheel, the smaller the surface speed.

Haveing never buffed on a wheel, what is a recommended speed?
