Thanked: 59Chrome plating coming off? On a Sheffield?
This experience is a first for me. Its a 10 dollar ebay razor. Very poor pictures in the ad, bought it anyway because I've received some pretty nice razors with bad pictures before. Stamped on the side in the usual place is, "extra hollow ground sheffield". It definitely has the shiniest appearance of any straight razor I have bought. Here's the thing, it's chrome plated. It's rusting in a couple of areas where I'm able to actually scrape the rust off with the chrome plating. Also strange are the scales, never seen anything like them either, its like there a plastic cardboard, very strange yes. I'll post some pictures up shortly. I want to get your guys thoughts on what this is? Fake?

It looks well ground, i suppose someone could have chrome plated an old razor, but seems silly to go through the effort. Is there any crome plating on the tang that you can tell? If it was cheap, I would probably take it off as best I could over time and see what was underneath....
The pinning does look amateurish

Thanked: 59Yea, it's chrome plated all the way. Shiny like a mirror, never seen this in a razor before. I would probably leave the plating on. The last picture you can see where I've scraped away the rust spots that were growing underneath the chrome plating. No other writing on the razor.

Thanked: 13234I have only seen two Chromed razors
They were Advertising razors, one also had the Pressed cardboard scales
Basically they were given out as Feebies at events, BUT normally they have an Ad on there so your is a bit odd
The ones I saw one was for an Election, and the other was for a Store opening...
Just a thought, Hope it helps

Thanked: 59Hmmmm, interesting. Thank you for that. I'm going to see if it will take an edge and be shave worthy... The steel underneath the plating seems like a strong carbon type.

Thanked: 433I've seen 2-3 plated razors as well. I can't remember the brands but they did take an edge if I remember correctly
