Has anyone used Bill Morris of AustinStraightRazor.com here in Austin Tx for honing? He is the only honemeister I can find in the Austin area. As a newbie, I want to make sure my blade is appropriately sharp. Thanks in advance!!!

How did you find him?
On line I assume, never heard of him myself.
Just via google, he has videos of his sharpening and shave testing. Would prefer using local vs shipping if he does good work. I just don't really know what to look for.

There are a lot of guys that are as close as the post office. With postage being so fast and inexpensive in the US it is not a big deal to send it out. There are several guys close to Texas. I doubt it would take more than a couple days each way to send it to Modine for example, he in in Kansas, SRD is not any further either.
Yes, there are many excellent honers that are available through the mail. If you want a list of profesionals I can make a list of honers I have used. Just send me a PM.
I'm still wondering why Members Services in Buy/Sell/Trade is mostly empty.

I used to advertise in the old Member Services area, but the new one requires purchase of a Vendor's License for $50 per year. That's too rich for me, and by the looks of it most everyone else as well.Quote:

I watched his videos and they scare me. He did a bevel set without protecting the spine. The spine was resting directly on the bevel setter hone with no tape and bright new shiny hone wear on the spine afterwards, so he wasn't lifting the spine either.
I'm opposed to hone wear, so I wouldn't use him.
If he would tape the spine, I might consider his services.
