Fisher Victorian razor

Hello folks,

this will be my first bottom tops serious 100% manualrestoration of what i expect is a nice antique razor. Most of my restoration are on razors that need much less work than this.. and i use some motored tools most of the times...

As many of you, I absolutely respect and admire Garrison and his outstanding restoration jobs on England antique razors... he has made many posts teaching the community on his methods.. but even so, I took the liberty of pinging him in private with questions, to find not only a wealth of information, wisdom and knowledge but also a kind and respectful person that i now admire even more...

So there I went on my quest of finding a nice project and was able to source this at around 25$ already shipped from England to Costa Rica.

This is a Fisher Victorian razor full wedge and 18 mm (11/16+) with broken scales and some deep but not impossible to kill pitting. Will start restoration after the holidays, but i wanted to share cause I'm in the need of more information about this razor, like maker and approximate dating. once i finish of course this will go to my collection, but would be nice to have what I'm working on. anything you guys know and can share about this razor?





there are other members of this community like this an other guys that I admire a lot to whom i will always be in debt Tom (Sharpton), Dieseld, Euclid 440, and of course another of my patient mentors OvidiuCotiga; but this restoration project will be done using Garrison techniques..

Congrats on a very nice find!

The 'VR' stands for Victoria's Reign' and I would guess would have been made between 1845 and 1900. Should be a great shaver.....Enjoy!

Looks like a nice project. Shouldnt take many days to get it up to new looking. And good luck on honing a near wedge. They can be a bear at times.

Thanks for the kind words, Gabe. Most of what I know how to do I learned or adapted from the many skilled craftsmen who have my deepest respect around here on SRP. The rest was learned by making mistakes and a bit of luck here and there I suppose. Still, always more to learn - that's what keeps this hobby so interesting.

That razor looks like a good choice for a project, lots of potential there. It's got that sweet smile to the blade that will be a real treat to shave with when she's done. A really rewarding feeling shaving with one you've restored. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Good luck, my friend
