Thread: Need Case Temperite 25 Scale Template & Polishing Question

Hi guys,

Got this Case Temperite 25 and the blade is in great shape, but the scales are crumbled like sawdust. I've never seen anything like it before.
Does anyone have a T25 they could use to trace me a template? When I get around to making the scales I want to get as close to original as possible. If anyone has suggestions on a specific color/source of acrylic/kirinite to use that would be helpful as well.

When I cleaning the blade with Mothers I sort of lost the matte/glazed finish on the tang. How do you guys that finish blades that way achieve that finish?

The tang was probably blued at one time, but I'd have to of seen it before u cleaned it, to say for sure.

I've heard of using warm vinegar to give a blade some patina.. Hope ya luck.

I use a sand blaster but sub either baking soda or other fine crystal to get a soft matte finish.
That same or similar finish I also use on DD Satinedge razors among others as their shafts should be matte and not polished.

Ive done the vinegar thing before. It worked for me but then i wasnt happy with the look of the finish so started polishing and most of it came back to a shine. I hear blueing looks really cool on the tang but have never tried that. Might be a nice option. Good luck.

be careful if using vinegar to add patina to a blade as i've had it actually make pits (that weren't there before) in the steel. I think bluing is the safer way to go(you can get it at places like Wal-mart, i think Birchwood Casey is the brand).As for the the scales i wonder if they weren't originally clear? If so, plexi-glass works well for that.
