Default First restoration on a vintage straight

I found a Wade & Butcher straight that was a good candidate for restoration I was comfortable with. It needed about .200" removed from the toe and new scales. The chipped toe was done with a dremel and came out nice and without a lot of work. The scales were done in camel bone from Ajkenne and are comming out very nice. I decided I was going to use brass so I need to order some brass pins from Aj and the wedge I have a piece I am working on. Looking good so far, wish me luck please!Name: 20190222_225605.jpg

Good luck. Cutting them off is not too much trouble, just be sure to polish those edges as it will scratch a strop easy. So be very careful running it on a strop the first time. Check it out easy at first.

Bone is my favourite material to work with.
Good luck, so it’s looking great.

I love bone scales, but it is a tough material to work with. There is very little flex to it, so you need to taper the wedge just right to make it all sit just right.

I always forget to take pictures of of my projects at the begining. Mostly stones that clean up to be something good. Then I'm like this is getting good I need to take a picture, Lol!
The camel bone is a nice material and is comming along nicely. I decided to go with a brass wedge and brass pins and washers. It goes good on W&B's in my opinion.

That's looking really nice!. I'd vote for the red on the wedge just to have it stand out a bit, but brass would have a timeless classy look. I don't think you'll go wrong with either choice.

Got a piece of brass to make some wedges and it got me thinking I could make some scales too. That is a whole other project. Lol!
Still want a piece of red plastic of somekind to make my final choice.
Dont know how the stones got on there but hey.
