Those pits are an optical illusion created by oil :)
I would rather have pits and more metal rather than a clean blade and less steel.. Each razor is its own case but the more i do this the more i like a touch of pitting, it shows the history in a way..

Joseph-On my bucket list is a trip back to one of the world's greatest cities. Three days there in June of '16 (which just happened to coincide with the fateful Brexit vote) just whetted my appetite for your fascinating, historic city.

Cleaned up this G Johnson with a 400 grit belt on a 3 inch wheel. 400 grit is a finishing belt.. It's a hollow grind so i couldn't do too much anyway. There are plenty of pits left. This works for me because it keeps some character. Tomorrow i will give it a satin finish on the buffer and re scale it..
The scales got heated and clamped after a soak in Neatsfoot .. They were broken at one end which i glued with a horn glue mixture . I also filled in the pin holes so they will get re drilled..
So far so good..

I also started on this Celebrated John Pitts..
Scalloped on one side, it has a long body too..
The scales are soaking in oil , they were twisted badly but they are a lovely shade of brown horn.

Finished this one. I had serious issues with the scales.. I may well give it a mirror finish because the Satin does not photograph well . Probably have a shave with it then un pin it.Quote:
