Thanked: 2W&B Bow
I think this is a good color for a set of scales from this Wae & Butcher Bow.

Hard to tell from the picture what that is. It looks like dyed horn. Or is it acrylic, or something else?

I'm always for horn. And it would be an upgrade from the black celluloid those were most often dressed in. Put it in those and if you don't like it save them for something else. That size will fit plenty of other things. I was always fond of the collarless pinning though.
No face etch on that one though? At least I can't see it from the pic if there is.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 02-25-2025 at 10:43 PM.

Thanked: 2No face etching on this one. I have a smaller bow with the etching that I will probably put up for auction on the bay sometime.

Thanked: 2Well they were supposed to come out totally red but the dye was not very deep. This is the first time I have tried to shape horn scales the traditional shape don't know how they came out so nice I usually have to mess up a set or two when I try some shape I have not done before. I think I will leave them the color they are instead of relying them.

I think they look nice the way they are. I'm a fan of the streaks that naturally occur in horn. This gives a similar effect.
Streaking must not have been en vouge in some periods gone by. Many times I have uncovered what I consider to be beautiful streaked blond horn that had been dyed to a solid color. I personally would have left it and been thrilled with it. But like anything else the public preferences change over time. Look at hemlines on dresses for instance. They go up, they go down, they go up...etc.
Nicely done by the way. Those look like something made for market. The contour is very even and the shape is precise and accurate to what that blade would have worn new.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 03-01-2025 at 07:13 AM.
