    Default My first "custom"

This was my first cut at making my own blade on the new grinder. I used 1/4" carbon stock. Heat-treated it myself in a homemade forge.

Let's say I learned a LOT on this project. I haven't honed it yet, so I'm not sure it'll take an edge. The steel seemed to have hardened properly, though, so I'm optimistic.

I was eager to see how it'll hone up so I didn't try to completely finish the tang. I need to get a buffer and some finishing belts.

    More to come.

Thanks, guys. I have another one in the works that I'm hoping will be much better.

I have made three or four knives, too, so I was able to apply those lessons to this project. The main thing I'm going to be trying to do is simplify the designs, leaving fewer surfaces to finish. There are a lot of facets on the tang to worry about. I want to get the finishing down before I try to get fancy.

I do plan to sell these once I get good enough, but that's a ways off. I might offer some at dirt cheap prices (and with a full, money back guarantee) so you guys can help me figure out what's working and what's not.

    We'll see how it goes.
