Marble Scales

I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried using actual marble for scales. I realize that there couldn't be much tension on the tang pins due to chances for cracking, but after seeing some of the other materials out there, i was just curious. Is it possible? Food for thought.

I don't know about marble but one of our members is using corian which can be gotten in a marble look I think. and would be a lot more forgiving on the edge should it hit the scales.

Wouldn't marble be really heavy? Also, if it cracks so easily from dropping or even tension at the pivot, I personally wouldn't want it for scales.

+1, It would be a bear to shape and to polish. I think cut to a 1/8" would be too fragile and still heavy.

I have made quite a few scales from Corian that had a marble finish.

Using Corian, I ran into excess weight issues; I wound up shaving the thickness down to about .3" to get a good balance. Actual marble is ston and much heavier than Corian so I would think you would have a hellava time getting something light enough that would have sufficient stregnth.

How many times have we had our preconceived notions changed by experimenting????
Lots for me..

I'd love to see someone try this just so we can positively check off.
It's beyond me...
I do like the Corion and acrylic marbelized looks....VERY snazzy.
