In need of your opinion

I have a Joseph Elliot Celebrated 7/8 wedge that someone seriously abused.
I picked this up off ebay with two other blades the total was $6 and change,that includes shipping so its not one I feel taken on no matter the outcome.
Once I sanded the rust off what I found is in the pictures.
The first pictrue shows the back of the blade, the red line is where the spin contacts the hone, wonderfully straight huh, also on the back most of the edge contacts the hone. It doesnt look warped just more metal removed from a belt sander in some spots.
The second pic shows again the red line that is where the hone touches the spine and also what looks like scratch marks from an 80 grit belt sander. I think at one point they set the bevel with 80 grit.
The third pic shows the spine, now why a razor would have that done it beyond me, it looks like someone may have been turning this into a knife with the fake double edge, (sorry cant remember what you call it or what it's for :shrug:).
My questions are this, can this ever be used as a razor again or would it require more work than what it's worth? What work would it take? Would it be better off to put a knife edge on this and make it a patch knife to carry with my black powder rifle?

The spine is factory, but not common! As for where the hone contacts the spine, now that is odd! You might want to send it out for regrinding!

Wow!! I wouldn't have thought that the spine was factory. Would you have any idea how much steel a regrind would remove? If its going to turn a 7/8 into a 4/8 I may just use it as a patch knife.

I couldn't say for certain, but you will likely have a very nice 6/8 or 13/16 straight!
Contact Gary aka Traveller as he can give you some good information regarding your blade!

Yepp, Gary can turn that sows ear into a mighty fine looking and deadly sharp silk purse! I'd dare say you won't loose that much based on the photos you posted... yes there's some pitting but it doesn't really look all THAT bad to me... some of the razors I've sent to Gary were positively horrid.

Most of the damage is from what looks like a mighty rough belt sander, that and tarnish.
I'll drop Gary an email and see what he thinks
