    Lightbulb An idea: snake-razor

I have an idea for some awesome scales.
If I stretched snake-skin around some scales, just cut out enough to get the tang around and just closed the rest of the way. And the head should be just the right size so it would fit on the "toe end" of the scales. Then I would seal it with a thin layer of epoxy or something like that, so water couldn't penetrate it and so that any smell couldn't come out. The only visible pin would be the one the blade pivots around.

But then there are some problems: How do I get hold of a snake-skin that size with the head intact? How do I treat the head so that it looks right and doesn't start disintegrating? And what would be the best way of attaching and sealing it?

I will try to put up a picture with a sketch sometime soon.
And what kind of blade would you guys suggest in a razor like that?

you could try a taxidermist, but likely you'd have to go to a pet store and buy the right size snake to take to them.

I think you'd be better off having one cast for you out of resin or some plastic and then having it painted before sealing it. I don't think the skin would take well to handling.

It would probably be easier to just mold one, but it is something about it being real that would add quite a bit to the wow factor.

Every time you got a nick you'd think the snake had bitten you. At least I would, snakes give me the heebeegeebies. My hands would shake too much to shave safely.

Whatever you use, you'd have to seal it real good. Any dead tissue is prone to bacteria. This on a blade that shaves your face and occasionally nicks it.

I was thinking about extending the spacer in the toe end all the way under the blade, just leave room for the tang to come trough, so that the only thing anywhere near the blade would be wood. And also soak it in something killing bacteria for a while+ scraping away all the fat and meat tissue I could. Preferably it should be done by a professional.

That sounds revolting! I know there's plenty of thinking outside the box here, but, come on......euch!!

It's given me a great idea for using a budgie, with the blade pivoting right out of it's arse though!

I've done snakeskin over micarta before. If I ever get some time to work on an art piece, I've also got a snake theme in miind that's would be quite cool, I think.

I don't think it would look good. Attaching a nice snake skin to carrier scales would be nice though.
