Hello All...
Today after my daily sharpening routing, and before my shaving....I had an "issue" with my Wapi....by mistake I throw my Wapi to the floor with my sleeve...
I think the pics talk by them self...
The question is....to repair or to get a new one.....what would be your recommendation? and if the recommendation is to repair...what could be the better approach?
As long as there are no cracks toward the spine & it's just that awful chip, it does look repairable. If you're after an excuse to get another though, then now is a good time!
That looks like a chip in the razor that hasn't yet fallen out....If you want to save the wapi, you'd need to hone until that defect was honed completely out. Do you have any bevel setting hones?
Looks like your Wapi has never been honed? If you get it repaired it will be better than ever!:gl:
It was honed, was one of my regular rotation....it is really hard to see the bevel on this one but used to be great shaver.....Quote:

But, yes, the Wapi is completely saveable.
Ah, I was going by the lack of wear on the spine. It must have been honed very carefully and/or with tape.:cool: Or just the camera angle maybe.Quote:

This also happened to me yesterday.I was just learning how to hone, strop and shave. I guess this is part of the challenge. I intend to fix it, though.

Hello All...
Last night I was working with my broken Wapi, I used the knife in the butter technique to remove the broken part....I was using the Norton 200 to do this
After that I moved to the Norton 1000 to set the bevel.
In the attached picture you can see the actual status.
Now I have a question, how can I know when it is time to move to the Norton 4000?
At this time the blade is more sharpen at the heel and toe than in the center...should I keep using the 1000 until I have it sharpen all the same way?
Any recommendations will be appreciated
the rule here at srp is for every razor you break or sell you must buy at least two to replace it and they must be of a higher value than the last ones :w

I just joined this evening. I've been shaving with an Annie Disposable using 1/2 of a Dorco DE blade. I recently acquired a Wapi and a Miller Latigo Strop. I had never shaved with a straight so I didn't know just how sharp it should feel. When I tried to shave with the Wapi, all I could stand was to go WTG. Then I would go back to the Annie Disposable to finish up. I stropped and stropped but I could not get the Wapi to shave any where near like the Annie Disposable. The next thing I did was to purchase a new Norton 4K/8K water stone. I figured that if the Wapi would shave at all that I should hone it on the 8K side. I've done that and stropped it on the latigo leather and although it has improved, it still is not sharp. Is there something that I should do between the 8K hone and the Latigo Strop? Is it possible to get it as sharp as a DE razor blade and if so how?

Wow, you have made a lot of progress.
I also managed to get mine flat. Something that I noticed is that the heel and the toe needed some polishing to round everything out. I will be working on honing it on 800 grit soon.

After a couple of hours on the Norton 4k, then the 8k, some pyramids, then 15k Paste, then CrOx and finally on the Diamond paste 0.25......
it is shave ready and back to life...
