Thanked: 488Perfect Razor Pins and some very nice scales
I was referred to this gentlemen in Germany who has some gorgeous pins and a system to attach them that works great with less chance of dinging your scales.
He sent some sample packs of his pins. You can tell from the pics they are nice. If you look at the packs you'll see a liner for lack of a better term. Once you drill the hole in the scales you lightly hammer this guide liner into the hole. It serves to protect the hole you just drilled and keep it from rounding out over time and razor use.The last picture shows a template that protects the scales as you hammer in the nail with attached ornamental cover of your choice. The template has two holes one for the nail to fit through and the other to fit over the ornamental cover so when you attach it the template again protects the scales. After attaching everything you just lift the template and it comes right off clean as can be with no marks on the scales. Then you flip the scales over and place the template over the nail and cut the nail to length. Then you take the Dremel and sand the rough nail edge down to where you want it. After that remove the template and hammer the pin lightly to shape it and flare it to hold. I tried leaving the template on and it worked and I could remove the template after shaping and hammering it down.
I really like this system of attaching pins. It's easy and keeps you from hurting the scales. Here is the address to contact him and order.
Pins montieren/Pins assemble - Rassiermesser/razorhandle
Printed instructions come with them and the website has a slideshow showing how to use them.
