How will you be using it?
So what kinds of leather can you get for this power strop? And does it come with your choice of pre-leather linen or canvas belts?
What will they think of next? :bow
:y
it is a Belt sander.i will use for wood and acrylic handles. at least this is the plan.
I use a similar one all the time. I have a 4x36 belt and 6" disk. They work great.
back when I did metalworking stuff, I used one all the time. As long as the belt tracking mechanism is sound, they are practically bullet-proof.
Also, I would like to be first on your list for some custom scales. FIRST.:D
congrats! cant wait to see what comes off of there!
ive only used industrial ones, but for what you want it for that looks perfect!
Watch your fingers and maybe wear eye protection. Some of those woods can give off lung and skin irritants. You might want a respirator with some of the materials as well. There is a thread on it in the archives. It may be in the Wiki by now. Oh, and have fun. :tu
Also, attaching a shop vac or even your home vacuum cleaner will reduce dust. Standard safety equipment for this includes:
-dust mask or respirator
-goggles or face shield
-apron
-leather gloves (or synthetis gloves that are abrasion resistant)
Great tool for shaping scales but they make a lot of dust. You will have fun!:)
I have used one of these.
They work allright, but you have to be careful. The wheel is not meant to be used as a contact wheel. If you put more than very light pressure on it, it will move a bit, and you risk the belt sliding against the frame, damaging the frame. Also, the wheel might get more difficult to align properly.
Using just the flat side they are OK, though they are not as fast as a bastard file, and they generate a lot of dust. Wear a breathing mask when using it.
I've found that the bet way to use these sanders is by first shaping the scales with a file, and then using the sander for smoothing everything.
