The answer is... it depends :)
Hollow grounds are very thin at the edge. If it was a crack all along, it was lost from the beginning.
It is also possible that there was no crack, but only a nick. If you use too much pressure, then the nick is the weakest place on the blade and that is where the blade will break. It's kinda like when you put tension on a piece of cloth: if the cloth is whole, then nothing will happen. But if there is just a small cut in the fabric, that is where the rip will start.
