Default Does razor restoration damage etchings on the blade?

I have just purchased a razor off of Ebay with special Masonic etchings that I want to preserve. I would hope that I could restore this razor to a mirror shiny like quality and of course shave ready, but would doing so compromise the etchings?

Cant really see it that well but depending on how deep the scratches are and how shiny you want it it could very well damage the etching. You might try a tumbler and see where it goes from there.

I could be very wrong, but those "special" etchings may have been applied recently, and they may disappear even faster than they were applied.

Just a hunch. I think I saw the same auction, the razor itself looked nice, but the wording rang alarm bells.

But if you like the etching try carefully polishing a small test area to check if it is safe.

I think I'll send it to Lynn and see if he can work some magic on it!

Well It doesn't have to be mirror like, but I would like to remove the oxidation and get it ready to shave with.

As Doc said it is hard to tell from the photos but if that was mine I would try Q-Tip and a paper towel with Semichrome, Maas or Flitz and call it good enough. Hone it up and than shave with it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Byutexan, you might want to check under member services, their are a few reputable guys who work restorations.

Where do I find that stuff? I have no clue about that stuff except for the Q tips?
