    Default Need Razors Made.

    Hi guys

I have recently come into a possible business venture for my obsession.
A friend is aiming to launch a high end brand, predominantly with mens leather bags, and he wants to do a shaving set as well.

We have batted the idea back and forth and he has asked me to make the set ie, Straight, Strop, Brush & a cream.

I was thinking originally to go with DAs, matching timber scales with the brush handle, but with the controversy over DAs, and although they function and shave well, i think they don't quite fit the bill.

Are their any of you forgers out their who would be interested in a project like this? Making good quality razors that are very simple (Brushed finish if that makes less work). I will make up the timber scales and hone them, so they just need to be like a razor blank.

Of corse im trying to keep it simple to keep cost down and would buy them in lots of say 10.

Please pm or post with suggestions.

    Thanks guys.

Hope to see this work...would be great if one of the well known makers got involved (though it could be a ton of work).

Not only that...sounds like a nice bit of kit once it's available...look forward to seeing it come to fruition.
    GOOD LUCK!

Would vintage razors, chosen within a set of perameters do the job? Say 5/8ths round point full hollow? There are plenty of old Bokers, Gottas, Kamas, Gencos and what have you, to fill that bill.

    Hope it works out

Well after doing more reading around the subject, im starting to see that all the poo poo over the DAs is pritty unjustified. They may be just the right razor for the Job; a razor that shaves well and looks good. I dont think it will need to be up their with the TIs and LeGrelots as they wont be near as expencive as that. We are aiming to make a really nice set likely for people who want to try straight razors. He is thinking of doing some kind of comic thing with an explaination of how to shave with a straight.

    It should be really good.

Im thinking of Olive wood at this stage. What do you reakon?

It would be hard to get ones that all look the same, or even close.

We will keep hunting and see what is the best we can do.

I would put refurbed ones for entry level. if you want to do customs make nice ones. you should be able to get an original blade you really like, get a knife maker to duplicate it, and start from there. IF you can't find a guy on here to do it for you.

read about some of the things it takes seraphim to get the DA's all straight and trued up sometimes. I don't know how much time you have, or how much cut you get from the business, but might not be work the time to invest versus getting blanks premade just right. just scale, hone and go.

I would be angry if I paid for a nice leather travel kit and it had a DA in it just my opinion>
