look through craigslist as well. My friend found someone selling 3 grand worth of wood and woodmaking stuff and bought it for 1 grand. I just get the wood from him.
I have a millwork shop nearby that also sells hardwood. They stock domestic and exotic hardwoods and in the process of doing their millwork they keep all the little pieces and sell them off, mostly to people turning pens. Their prices are very reasonable.
If you can find a business nearby that mills hardwood or sells hardwood I'll bet you will find that they will sell a lot cheaper than the ebayers. Shipping fees can be considerable and can be avoided if you can find local supply. Snoop around, I have never found a hardwood supply that did not sell our "little stuff".
