Does anybody have a material that they use other than the typical knife spacer material, Vulcanized Fiber? Plastic? Metal alone? Etc...? Ideas/suggestions please :)
Something that is readily available at a local hardware or hobby store would be preferred. My intent is to use it for lining scales, if that helps at all...

I have seen some knife handles that had vinyl record (lp) as spacer material. I might be worth a try.

I am going to try and use some coins for spacers on razor scales
I used fimo polymer clay

you shape it cook it in the oven and it keeps fantastic colors...

these are just to give an idea of the variety of colors, in reality they are much more flashy.

I suppose I should have been a little more precise in my first post... I just remembered that there is no set name for wedge/spacers so the term "spacer" is often applied to wedges.
I am using the term "spacer" in this context as "liner material" i.e. making lined scales as demonstrated in Bill Ellis' blog on scale making.

But.. That clay looks like it would make some great wedges! I'll have to try that out. Is it available at a hardware or crafts store?
I guess for availability it depends of the country...but for france and spain yes definitly at craft stores...or even toy shops.
The clay idea looks rather interesting. I'd really like to see what you can come up with.
here we go...I was thinking about making full set of scales in that but I doubt the rigidity is enough to avoid nasty twisting...might try one day though...

no I doubt it ever crack and fall out in pieces, once cooked it is more like a piece of plastic, it is not clay it is a ploymere...I did varnish it...of course I can't tell if it will still be there in 100 years but I made it around 7 month ago it has not moved nor changed color nor cracked it seems to be in a prety stable state.

I bought a roll of thin brass some time ago but have not used it yet. The brass might look good as a liner in my Bison horn scales if I can get the blanks flat enough to match. I have a couple of white plastic tubes from the third pin position of some damaged scales to use also.

I realize that silver is costly (I can't afford it myself for now) but you can get other metals that will work just fine as liner material. Copper, brass, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals will work nicely (with the right adhesive). If you don't want metallic liners you can get composits like carbon fiber: Advanced Composite Products Manufactured by Composite Resources
Or fiberglas like what is used for circuit boards you can get it at Radio Shack. Then any hobbyshop will have sheets of rigid plastics.
