Thanked: 125Alternative Spacer Material?
Does anybody have a material that they use other than the typical knife spacer material, Vulcanized Fiber? Plastic? Metal alone? Etc...? Ideas/suggestions please
Something that is readily available at a local hardware or hobby store would be preferred. My intent is to use it for lining scales, if that helps at all...

I have seen some knife handles that had vinyl record (lp) as spacer material. I might be worth a try.

Thanked: 4I used fimo polymer clay
Fimo polymer modeling clay : technique
you shape it cook it in the oven and it keeps fantastic colors...

these are just to give an idea of the variety of colors, in reality they are much more flashy.

Thanked: 125I suppose I should have been a little more precise in my first post... I just remembered that there is no set name for wedge/spacers so the term "spacer" is often applied to wedges.
I am using the term "spacer" in this context as "liner material" i.e. making lined scales as demonstrated in Bill Ellis' blog on scale making.
Hope that helps...
But.. That clay looks like it would make some great wedges! I'll have to try that out. Is it available at a hardware or crafts store?

Thanked: 20The clay idea looks rather interesting. I'd really like to see what you can come up with.

Thanked: 4here we go...I was thinking about making full set of scales in that but I doubt the rigidity is enough to avoid nasty twisting...might try one day though...
