    Smile Split Mandrel

I'm not too sure if anyone has come across the same find when using a split mandrel but I thought to post it anyway.

A few weeks ago while restoring a spike razor I tried using the split mandrel method mentioned in the SRP wiki and it worked well but I had to replace my flaps after a short while of rough use. As frustration set in, I started to tinker with different methods and came across a fast and simple one that makes it easy and provides a long span in between changing out flaps. Below is a self explanatory series of pictures that illustrates the method. Its less noisy and allows you to cut the front length to expose a fresh surface as you progress through your sanding.
