Thread: Scale replacement question

Hey all,
THis may be a stupid question and I appologize if it has been discussed but I am new to all of this and was looking for guidance. I have been reading the beginner wiki and noted that Kriegar blades are worthless. What I am wondering about is if anyone has ever taken a Kriegarblade apart and replaced the poor quality blade with a better one. I found this beautiful Kriegar with fake pearl and stainless scales that I like. Amazon.com: Kriegar Folding Straight Razor - Pearl with Fantasy Scroll: Sports & Outdoors

so does anyone know if I could put a good blade in these scales? or if not, how I might go about getting a good blade with scales that look something like these?

I cant see any pins in the picture. So its hard to say how easy it would be to remove the scales wihout doing any damage. Hopefully someone else will be along soon who has seen one in the flesh and can give some advice.

I won't say you can't ....

But here are some of the work arounds you are going to run into...

They use 1/8" pins
They use a knife style pin that are cut and peened flush
The scales are very very heavy
the scales are desinged more like a folding knife than razor scales, I don't think they will flex correctly when you put in the razor with a tapered tang...

I think the 1/8 pins are going to be the biggest issue for you. Razors use 1/16, so you have a whole lot of extra hole to fill somehow.

ok, so those would not be a good choice. that's kind of what I had figured. The other thing I was wondering about was does anyone know where I could get something like those that actually would work?

Classicshaving sells some Dovo and TI replacement scales....

Or you could contact some people that are in the member services classifieds.

instead of replacement scales, if the pearl is what you want, you may like something like this...

That Dovo mothr of pearl razor is indeed a beaut, no question, but what I really like about that kreiger is the combo of the pearl and scrolled silver (ok, chrome....ok shiny metal). I don't know, something about the combo of the hard and soft combo does it for me, I always did have to be difficult.

In that case my friend you must get a good blade and pay alot of money for one of the few scale makers on this forum to custom build you some. I have seen similar somewhere, with an orange hard wood and pearl inlay, just cant remember where...

or go the cheap route and get the Pearlex Dovo, some aluminum foil, and some double sided tape.

No one will ever know the difference.
