    Default Shipping a Japanese Straight

I wasn't sure where to put this post, so please move if there is a more appropriate spot.

I've got a Japanese straight I need to ship out for a honing. It didn't come with a box, so I'm looking for someway to ship it without the edge becoming damaged.

My current plan is to carve out a recess in balsa wood to place the razor in, sandwich this with a couple slabs of veneer and rubber band it all together.

    Anyone have a simpler solution?
    Thanks,

Wouldn't the edge cut into the bubble wrap, while being jostled during shipping?

Tape the edge with electrical tape. Use some cardboard to wrap around the razor if you like and then use the bubble wrap.

Not if you superbubble wrap it.

When I originally got mine it came wrapped with brown paper followed by another paper and placed inside sleeve. On top of the sleeve was pre-cut bubble wrap and the sleeve was also inside of the paulonia box.

Only if it's really sharp, and since you're sending it for honing you don't have to worry about that. It becomes the problem of the person who hones it when shipping it back

See, I'm always here to help

Kent if you're concerned about the tape dulling the edge then allow a little space when you close the tape up. But it looks like you're located close to me so I'll offer that you can just ship that puppy to Colorado and not be concerned about it. I'll take full responsibility for the sharpness of the edge. Note that it will never leave Colorado but you can be secure in the knowledge that it's in good hands - forever. :-)

Thanks for the tip, and the offer, but although we're located relatively close to one another, it would be quite a drive for me to shave with this blade.
