Thread: First re-pin

Thanks to the pin removal and replacement posts from Gssixgun, here's my first try at re-pinning a razor. "NOS" Dubl Duck Pearlduck Satinedge that arrived with a wobbly blade that didn't center, and needing more TLC than expected (rust removal, unexpectedly dingy scales that were rough inside, a few pits, dings and scuffs.) When I removed the pins, the tang pin came out pretty bent, to my surprise.

My next project will be Glen's tumbler trick on some neglected blades and some re-scaling... and pins completely from scratch (flat washers and NiAg or Brass rod) instead of the half-done-already stainless TI pins.

Thanks for all the great posts and good advice I've picked up here, the online straight razor & wet shaving community seems to be a rare oasis of civility online. I am continually impressed and motivated by the pros and advanced amateurs, just doing this minor job for myself (while encouraging) really makes me appreciate what must go into a real restoration.

After pics (next time I'll take before pics!) please forgive the dark poor quality photos, they do hide the flaws though don't they?

The first three photos show my peening work, the other side of the pins was pre-formed. I think I need to work on uniformity a bit to match the flat looking pre-formed heads on the opposite side. Looking at other new and vintage razors in my modest collection, I see quite a variation in the size of the riveting... some appear to err on the side of "big" and maybe a little sloppy looking. I ended up going smaller instead of bigger.
