I know the author made a disclaimer/warning on the site, but I'm going to echo that warning again here:
Many wood products are disolved in a flamable solvant (Ketones), and while I disagree that using a real hotplate (i.e. a labratory hot plate) is dangerous, please use real caution when heating any solvant.
Many of you have those neat Rival instant hot water pots for your shaving, and that would be a perfect resource for your boiling water.
Even the heating elements of an electric stove can ignite the fumes from petrolium base solvants... so please be smart and be careful.
I'm looking into a few ideas from the bladesmith community that may be applicable to the casual home razor restoraton projects... I just wish I had the means currently to dive in my self
I've made a couple of scales from wood at www.woodcraft.com.
They carry a variety of exotics in 1/8 inch thickness.
