What scales for my 7 days of Friodur?

I've often thought about doing a 7 day set with woods that are black and white in color. I've thought of using gaboon ebony, holly (or other harder white wood), and black-n-white ebony to really mix it up a little. Varying end shapes and wedges all along the way. It would be neat because you could have some all white, all black, mostly white, mostly black and all in between. You could choose whatever wedge contrasts the best.

That's cool.

For me, I'd go with seven different rosewoods. Probably cocobolo, African blackwood, Honduras rosewood, tulipwood, palisander (or voamboana), bois de rose (D. martima), and maybe Panama rosewood. They're all very different despite being closely related.

Curly, quilted or birdseye maple all the same shapes. use dyes such as Butch has noted to set each one out from the rest. You could use the surrounding days' colors as accents over the main for the day

They are handmade products so no matter how close a pattern you try and follow, there will be tiny inconsistencies that creep in...That sets my OCD off but I guess some people can handle them not being perfect..
See horn would do that for me because they would never be matched unless they were just plain black horn, those differences in patterns in the horn would drive me loony tunes :)...

The solid Acrylics, I like so much, or perhaps the Carbon Fibers or the G-10 like Max does, those would be much more pleasing to my brain... but then again I admit to being weird hehehehe

I agree with two things Glen mentioned:

I'd stick with something solid or an identically patterned synthetic material- the different grain in the wood, or pattern in horn will never match perfectly. I'd wind up going bat**** over something like that.

Also, I'd make the matchy-ness subtle, such as an identical wedge. Actually, if you use a single type of wedge material, that could be a cool place to put the days of the week. It'd have to be a straight wedge, not tapered. And I don't know how to get the words on there... But that'd be a cool idea. Solid black scales, white ivory wedge, black letting with the day of the week down the end of the wedge. Like a classic Converse sneaker.

Personally, I don't know why you'd rescales these though. :shrug: They're in great condition it seems. If it ain't broke... If you make scales that are too bold, IMO, you're gonna start taking away from them being a set, and then they'll just be 7 rescaled Friodurs. But, hey, they're yours and I'll be stoked to see what you come up with. :tu
