Thread: I got Renaissance wax in pivot......

I was cleaning up my razor with Renaissance wax and a small blob got down in the pivot. The razor was nice and tight prior to getting Renaissance wax in the pivot now its too well lubricated and opens too easily. I tried dish soap and water didnt help. The scales are acrylic what can I use to clean out the Renaissance wax without damageing the acrylic scales? Help please

Something like electronic parts cleaner. It comes as a spray and evaporates fast but not enough so that you can't try this. Spray some into a small container and use a Q-tip to get down into the area you want cleaned. The parts cleaner dissolves all grease/wax based stuff. If you're quick, careful and stay down in where it's not seen from the outside you should be okay, otherwise you'll have to de-pin.

You could also try a bit of unwaxed dental floss. That may help along with the stuff Mike recommended.

I use those compressed air cans that come with the thin extended nozzle extension to blow residues and crap from between the pivot. Flossing like JImmy pointed out can also help.

Why don't you put some 91% alcohol on a Q tip and put it on the tang so that it runs down into the pivot on each side. You should probably do that several times to wash all the stuff out.
Then blow it out wit compressed air.

91% alcohol will cut the wax right off and evaporate any water in the pivot.
Try not to get it on the handles.

Just another thought, it is nice to have some rust preventative in that area. By the time you're done you may have removed it completely. Leaving some stuff in there being an option have you tried tapping the pin ?
