Epoxy was car body stuff "Davids" sold in uk at Halfords stores.
The resin has a slight pink tinge to it when hardener is added, this is ok for darker scales.

I do like them a lot.
Home made.... how long has the resin had to cure?
Perhaps give them some time in the sun. UV can
harden them a bit and make them polish better.
Also visit the manicure area of the local pharmacy. The
polishing tools for nails can polish many things and are
inexpensive. A final coat or two of sealer/ resin can help...
And sealer may include super glue as others suggested.
The last thing to try apply is wax.
Micarta slab was made almost 2 weeks ago now.
I can't be sure if resin is uv resistant, but I think so because the tin say's it can be used to repair skylites?
