No he does not, but
look at this
Bob Kramer Custom Damascus Chefs Knife - eBay (item 170566885591 end time Nov-18-10 15:20:51 PST)
pretty popular maker with huge wait list I think in the 3 year range.
If one could draw any parallels by price, a razor made by him would be pretty expensive.
:banghead: i know why its that expensive,,,Mr kramer,,killed Wolverine and stole his adamantium ";"
Yep, that is definitely impressive! :bow
One very skilled guy.
glad to see a fellow Reddit user on here :)
I read the article in the "New Yorker" on him. That's where I learned about the six-meter loop, a mathematical formula used for blade edge shape. I found it mysteriously present in a surprising majority of my blades, from paring, santoku and in many chef's knives.
He's definitely awesome. I own a Shun Classic 8" chef knife and it is a very beautiful shape, it's balance and ergonomics are so good I find myself able to flip it and twirl it around in my hands as if it is possessed by some magical energy (in D&D terms it would have to be at least a chef knife +1, maybe even +2). The SG2 line looks to be very similar, I think it's around HRC 63-64, which is hardcore stuff.
Awesome. I wonder how much that big hammer thing costs?
Not that I can buy one, can't afford a grinder yet :)
The guy has some skills though.
Not trying to put the mans skills down or anything, but why is it that just because he's passed the ABA does it make him a master bladesmith in a select group of 114 in the world. I think that there would be many such artisans in the knifemaking world that are his equal. Why is it that the American society thinks that their award is the one and only means of discerning such titles???! It strikes me as just a little arrogant.
The man has certainly a great example of a rags to riches self made man, He may not be all that rich financally, but for a man of limited schooling, he sure has a lot of skill.
Mick
bob is a good guy least when i have dealt with him
(got my sheet of 52100 from him )
the ABS is for bladesmiths
if you dont hammer the steel you cant be a member (i toy with the thought of settign up a forge and playing around with hot steel)
forging is fun but doesnt really make the steel better (the HT does that )
That is so very cool. It is so nice to see that we have many craftsmen still around be it knives or razors. I hope that these lost arts will carry on and prosper.
I know of a few here in Australia too. I'm not a 'smith myself as I use the stock removal method when I make knives. I am in the process of putting a forge together all the same, as I feel that forging is more right for me. We have our own Guild here that, I'm sure, would be the equal of the ABS...Thus my critical comment previously.
Like I said I'm not making any attacks on the 'smith, just the presenters comments and the way they were put across.
Mick
understand
what most ppl dont get is the fact that with modern steels forging does not make it that much better is any (matter of fact much more can go wrong then it can go right)
the more ppl know of this the less a smith will seem mystical. tho i have lots of respect for the smiths its fun/hard work and if making Damascus steel truely art
Emailed his shop since he is just south of where I live, going to swing by and check it out for a couple of hours some time.
$12600 for a knife? I can't imagine what it could do that could make it worth $12600.
I dont know how much they are but here is a set of plans to make one Hydraulic Press
ooopppsss its a press guess i should look more before posting after having a few drinks
Hi,
Wow, now that is chasing your dream. It just took him a bit to find it.

:rofl2: Oh! Were you being serious just then?!...Oops sorry:D
:deadhorse: It would take me a while longer to obtain the proficiency of that chap...But I already am one of the chosen few...Who have the ability to make a decent knife...Not a brilliant knife, but better than many a shop bought one. :)
to get the rating ABS JS takes at least 2 years (atending an ABS school cuts a year off) std is 3 years then you can test to see if you pass
then in another 2 years you can test for MS but most cant pass the ranks that quick
jsut like any guild tho you have yearly dues to pay also
there are lots of makers that are top notch that do not have the rating
the best part of the rating is as a web buyer you can say JS means at least X amount of quality and MS = better fit and finish(so long as that maker doesnot slack off as they get older )
