As a matter of fact....I wonder how a fine cut straight blade made of obsidian would handle/hold up etc. ????

Well I believe they use obsidian scalpels for certain kinds of heart surgery. The glass structure of the obsidian means that, at a microscopic level, it can be sharpened beyond what is physically possible with steel.
