    Default Cleaning the blade

What do yall use to clean up a razor blade? I assume some kind of paste or chemical? Since my new piece has only the tarnish on it maybe I can polish it off by hand?

I had a Dremel and a flex shaft motor dremel type tool and figured I wouldn't need them so I took them down to my dads

If the blade isn't too badly tarnished, you can get by without the Dremel. Any good metal polish will work. Maas, Simichrome, Flitz and others are available at places like Wal-Mart or by mail order. I've used Simichrome and Flitz with a micro-fiber cloth and they polished out very well.

I cleaned up by hand, first with sand paper, then steel wool, then auto polish. It takes lots of time and aggravates your wife while doing it in front of the tv.

Prior to cleaning it up I had honed it to a state that I could shave with it. I think while cleaning it I've lost the bevel. Now I can't get it back to shaving.

Damn you all and your shiney razors!

Just curious. what grit sand paper did you use? I saw on the woodcraft site that they sell some metal polish, so I might can grab the steel wool or cloths there also.

I used wet dry sand paper with a combination of 400 600 and 1000 grids

If I'm going after some deep pitting, I'll start with 100. But, more often than not, the pitting isn't that bad and I'll start with 220 instead.

If I'm just getting out some light surface staining & tarnish, then I'll start with 600 or 800. Maybe 400, but only very lightly.

When I'm moving into finishing & polishing territory, then I'll go succesively with 1000, 1500, 2000 and lightly with 5µ (~2500grit). Then polishing with simichrome.

I tihnk its just light tarnish, no pits or any deformations of the metal just discoloration. I hope I don't lose the etching so we will see.

You might want to put some tape over the etching or at least be very, very careful around it. Most of those products, including Maas, Simichrome, etc, will remove the etching.

I am going to see if I can find me some 1000+ grit sand paper tomarrow to see if I can work these little bits of rust out.

I found Maas and TarnX at wal mart but only got the Maas and some clean rags. They seemed to have cleaned both razors up pretty good but have to work out that little bit of rust.

Found out one razor was sharper than I thought, it cut through the rag and into the tip of my finger some hehe trial and error I guess. Like a bad paper cut.

Oh is there something that can clean this Gunk up? Its almost like grease or something, but not easy to come off. I tried a little bit of 409 and also Dawns dish soap but that only helped a little.

How do you clean between the scales without taking them off? There an easy way?
