Here's an astonishingly similar thread from a week ago, with the same question: http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...-material.html
Here's the workshop thread that has the answer: http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...wers-here.html

If you don't have a complete shop stick to 1/8 inch thick sheets... Like Watermark pointed out already...

Call your local Glass shop and Sign shop they should have some stock and scrap

Look at acrylic Clipboards they can be cut and used

Not strictly an acrylic but a paper or linen reinforced thermosetting plastic, is the micarta from Jantz Supply for all your Knife Making needs . There is a bitterly frustrating variety of plastics, woods etc. up to 5in. long, but the micarta goes larger in 1/8in. sheet. One type is a pretty good substitute for ivory.

Now I am stretching my memory back nearly fifty years, but I think I found it was possible to dye the British perspex (pretty much like plexiglas) with the powdered hot dyes used for fabrics. You might care to try it on some small test pieces. But I think you could get some interesting mottled effects by binding with with something to interrupt the dyeing.

I bought some fiberglass resin and am going to try my hand at making micarta!
