how would i go about removing scales from a razor, i have a 5/8 DOVO

Heres a link to our Workshop sticky , u will find tons of info on removing pins, also the easiest way I do it is to cut the pins with some flush cutters then carefully tap out the pin with a punch.

I file or sand just a bit to flatten the peen, and then use a drill press right on the center of the pin. I'm no expert, and sometimes I damage scales, but I've gotten better and have been breaking less.

The pivot pins on four (4) of my Dovos were bent; so after removing the 'head' on the first side, if the pin doesn't pull through easily, lift off the first side scale, then the blade, and then you can straighten the pin and pull it through the second scale.

I use flush cutters. You do have to be careful as it's easy to gough into the scales with the sharp points but they are pretty effective.

I use a little $7 pin vise hand drill with either a 1/16 or 3/32 drill bit and, after more than two dozen pin removals, have yet to damage a scale.

If the pins are straight it is a piece of cake no matter which method you use.

If the pins are bent then drilling them out is probably the best way.

I drill the head of the pin with a drill press, then tap the pin out with a small nail and hammer, into a hole drilled in a wooden board.
