Henckel 7 Day Set Restore
I just won a 7-day set of vintage Henckels on Ebay and was wondering who is my man for an ultimately envious restore? The blades don't look in too bad of condition from the photos but I haven't seen them up close yet.

What do these sort of services usually cost and how long does it take? Looking here for the jedi knight of straight blade restorers guaranteed to put a fat grin on my face
I wouldn't mind doing it myself if it looks like something that can be done without too many special tools or that requires some significant expertise but I do not want the result to look like an experiment in me learning how to restore.Last edited by groovyd; 08-14-2011 at 10:36 PM.

most look like they do not need restore (pics out of focus a bit), but honing will be needed for sure.

at the very least I would like them polished up to remove any oxidation and bring them 'back to new' mirror-like finish. let them soak in whatever the magic goo is that I see all these 'before and after' photos on this website that makes a rusty butter knife look like a dynasty era samurai. I have some honing stones (norton 4/8 and naniwa 12k) which I can hone them with but am still very much a beginner and don't want to batch up the great score. Perhaps in this case it is better to have a professional sharpen these up at first?

I'd advise to send them out for honing.
If you want them all have the same appearance you can have them all worked on as much as each needs.
Henckels is a reputable maker, and I have always liked their razors.Stefan

Awesome purchase. Very very cool to say the least. Made by Henckels for US or UK export, as the days of the week are in English. Nice.

Any idea how old they are? Are they 'vintage' quality?

Celluloid went out of use after WW2, so that effectively dates them to pre-1940 for a start. The style of logo started being used in abt. 1905 through to the 1960s. So they are between 105 and 70 years old.
The box is probably the best source for dating. I am not an expert but it seems to fit early Art Deco period so I would guestimate the early to mid 20s as being the approximate date i.e. roughly 90 years old.
They are 'quality'. No need for any other descriptors or qualifications.

Nice score on those razors. I looked at them, but don't have the dosh right now to afford something that nice
