Default Restoration of antique razor case.

I am moving this part of the restore from the other thread, as I think this forum is more appropriate .
    http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...azor-case.html

The faux crocodile pattern leather arrived while I was at home for lunch. It was packaged very well.
The pattern is not what I expected, the original 'croc scale' was a very small, perhaps 1/8 inch per scale , and the new stuff is almost life size 'crocodile scales' faux leather.

Now I have a decision to make, in the other thread the idea was talked about as to if I would restore this antique razor case and build a replica. Now that the paper has arrived and it is so much different I am leaning to only doing a replica.

With a restore I could probably complete the task tonight after work, as to building a replica I still have to find the wood and hinges, it will be awhile longer.

    Your opinions are welcome.

    Here are some photos.

Neat idea. The yellow material looks like a smaller pattern. Keep the pictures coming as you make progress.

I'd make a replica. Seems like the best use of materials. But I don't think it matters. Either way, you got something cool. It's already on my ever growing list of cool stuff I hope I find someday at an antique store.

As I mentioned in your previous thread, my razor box is identical to yours with the exception of the covering. Mine was originally covered with a pebble grained black paper that was supposed to imitate some sort of leather, possibly pig skin or calf skin. Anyway, in looking through the Dick Blick website I noticed several types of bookbinding materials that mimic the pebble grain of my box. Since your alligator pattern seems to overpower your box, you might want to consider this pebble surface since it is authentic to that style of razor box.

Thanks Walt, that looks very similar to the rapidly deteriorating material form my Gem seven day box.

Kind of off topic, but what kind of miter box is that?

I got it at Lowes, not sure of the brand. I think it's for doing moulding. At least that is what I got it for.
