Check my Razor Design
I'm hoping, some day, to have a dream razor made by a custom razor maker. I've been doodling and checking out designs of different razors and sort of came up with what would be my ideal custom razor design at the moment. An inclined nose, smiling swayback, about 9/8" (though it could be a touch bigger) in a 1/4 hollow grind. This one is reminiscent of my Manhattan Cutlery only on steroids. What do you guys think of my drawing? Is this a viable design? Where would I tweak it?
I realize this is a personal preference thing, but thoughts on my design are welcome.
The measurements would be something like this, based on my drawing:
Point to tang: 7 1/8"
Blade Width: 1 1/8"
Cutting Edge: 3 3/4"
It looks pretty huge, actually. Is this too big for a realistic razor?

depends on the person. this is 13/8!!!"We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm."

That is one of the razors that keeps me up at night
I was more concerned about the length, as that is a LOOOONG blade I drew up. I have since shaved the design down about 3/4" or so and it looks a bit more realistic. Anyway, this is a long way away yet, but I have already filled several pages of drawings and sketches. Yes, it was a slow day at work.

Yeah that looks good. Better (IMHO) at 3" blade length. Is that silver bolsters at the end of the tang? That would be cool.

Well, the silver bolsters would look pretty sweet, but I am still just in a doodling, dreaming stage at this point
I've done a few more sketches and you're right, cutting the blade down closer to 3" does look a bit more realistic.

It's too big for a realistic razor, but not too big for a dream razor or a custom razor. There are some others out there of that size and length

I agree, but I do think I'd probably scale the edge back to about 3 1/4" instead of 3 3/4" if I ever get this razor made. That extra half an inch can be the difference between a smooth shave and an earlobe
