    Default I need help!!!

I bought a razor from a local antique store. It had/has some pitting on the blade my plan was to sand the pitting out and then put it in a bullet tumbler to get a good mirror finish on it. I wont lie I am worried that I might have messed up a good feeling razor. I have only gotten as far as 150 grit sand paper when it comes to working on the blade and getting the pits out. I can['t tell if I am just losing my nerve or am ruining the blade of a razor that seems to call to me. Razor design and restoration is a interest of mine, and I just happened to find one that has historical significance to me and my family (going back at least 3 generations). It has a little rust on the blade or at least that is what I am told. I told my mother that I could get the blade splitting hairs again and I am confident that it will happen... It just might not be my first restoration, but I would like to see it happen so at the next reunion i can show it off. I am not planning on tackling a job so important to me as my first restoration but I was wishing for some words of advice /encouragement.I will post pics of my current project if any one would like. Thanks in advance for all the vast knowledge that this forum allows me to tap in to and i wish ever straight and D.E. shaver a good shave and a good day;.

I am not really into restoration, but from what I do know about it the only way to learn it is to do it. If it turns out you ruin this razor somehow (unlikely if you are hand-sanding, but not impossible I guess) then chalk it up to experience, learn from your mistakes, and move onwards and upwards. No one starts an expert - I am sure Bill Ellis, Max, Glen, Alex, et al all made their fair share of mistakes and most likely have a pile of dead razors to prove it somewhere.

What exactly makes you think you have messed up this razor?
