    Default My ongoing random Restoration Questions

    Is there some sort of resin that hardens in to a plexi-glass type material? I'm considering making some plexiglass panes and putting stuff inside.

    what exactly are you looking for? 5 min epoxy may work for a small project.

    I know that inlace is a good quality liquid resin that hardens clear and without bubbles. Perhaps that will work. It's still some sort of epoxy though. I don't think you'll find liquid plexi outside of an industrial setting.

    Experiment with CA (cyano-acrylate, aka crazy glue). Being an acrylate it is in the acrylic familly and is related to plexiglass.

    You can build up almost any thickness perfectly clear if you are patient enough to apply thin coats and careful not to get inclusions of dust and bubbles. Use the thinnest variety you can find (Hot Stuff, red label), the thicker ones trap air bubles.

    there is some stuff woodworkers use around here that dries Crystal clear and is as hard as a rock,I will have to find out its name first. One fellow did a rock pool scene in the top of a table ,.put cray fish Shel's rocks etc and poured this stuff in and hey presto a rock pool in the middle of your dining table ,it dries as clear as glass,I will stop in and ask when I`m out that way

    I've been trying to find some stuff for almost the same purpose as you, icecow, but haven't come up with much more than what's been recommened. Of course, I haven't had the chance to experiment with much, yet.

    I think there are also acrylic resins. I haven't been able to find too much about them, but my searching for it has been limited so far.

    Epoxy might work. There are types that cure to an almost crystal clearness. I just picked up some devcon epoxy and been meaning to try that. I'll let you know how it goes. However, with any liquid, airbubbles are a problem; so, I'm not looking to forward to trying to sort through that part :\

    FYI, That texasknife.com store C utz posted (damn nice find btw) sells the clear devcon epoxy.
