Just read through the thread ..... OUTSTANDING WORK! :bow And having Paul Bos do the HT as well, it just doesn't get any better than that! What's the overall weight on this beauty anyway? No chance for a hammond line on stainless I assume? Something that size sure would look sweet with one. Are you going to cryo treat after the temper?
Jack
Paul has had it for a while... he must be busy. I'm hoping it gets back soon. It will be quenched then taken to -270 degrees or thereabouts. I may or may not post pics as it comes closer to being finished... just in case someone is peeking. :)
I haven't really had the desire to get into heat treating, myself. That's mainly due to not wanting liquid nitrogen around. I wound up with 2nd and third degree burns on both hands from disarming ordinance once, so I want nothing to do with stuff that melts skin anymore.
I may break down and start a few carbon steel blades because I can treat them with a torch. If so, then I can go the Hammon line route. For Josh's razor, maybe I'll just paint some flames near the edge... that ought to do it. :D
Well, I don't know about you, but I'd love to have LiNi around, that stuff is just fun :) What precisely is it used for in heat treating anyway? I've always heard of cryogenic treatment, but, never have seen any conclusive results that it improves the hardness of steel.
Good question, Jason. And it's something I'd also like to hear the answer to.
:OT:HJ (but since you guys asked, go [here] for cryogenic info :roflmao)
Thanks Joe :tu However, we weren't o/t. We asked questions quite relevant to Bill's work on Josh's blade
