Your link was informative. It looked like good info. Here is a link to Paul's information page on his heat treating process. Looks like the Nitro bath is a good idea to me.

Well, it looks like it's about time to rock and roll. The 4.2 ounce blade just got back from Paul Bos. He took it to 59RC, which sounds good to me.
Right now it's a variety of browns and pinks and greens. The normal color of a heat treated piece of stainless.
I won't get much done on it tomorrow 'cause I have to go pick up my new 62 inch Toshiba TV. Since mama is in Vegas giving presentations on grant writing, I gotta do it all by my lonesome...:cry:
Awww poor Bill. You get to play around with a new 62" TV without interference from a soap opera/chick flick/talk show-loving wife :cry:
By the way, what is the ideal range for steel hardness for razors?
I agree, poor you. I will tell you what. How about I pack up my 32", drive it out to your house and drop it off. I will then go pick up your new 62" and bring that back home. I could use a road trip and some sun anyway. :)
Then my 26" is only good enough for the outhouse :cry:
Well I just got the 32" on Saturday (used), the 25" we have had since 1999 went in the basement, the 19" that was down there is going on the curb :) Moving up 7" is quite dramatic as is. We were looking at 42" but something came up so maybe next year :( I thought I saw a 70" when we were looking several months ago :eek: My god, pretty soon the people will be life size!!! But now I am getting way off topic...................so how about some more pics of that project in the making:shrug:
Or are you going to advise that all projects are on hold for two weeks while you relax in the lay-z-boy and watch your new t.v. Al Bundy style?? ";"
As far as the tv in the outhouse that would not do either of us any good right now, since the lows here are going to be in the single digits this week. Can't imagine its much better up north.
Ahhh... how well I remember the days of my youth... nothing (and I mean NOTHING) woke me up on a crisp winter morning faster than that oak board seat in the outhouse when it was -20-degF. :eek: TV or not, the outhouse is a short visit in the winter :roflmao
[-20F = -29C]
Here's how you convert between the two.
TC=(TF-32) / 1.8
TF=1.8*TC + 32
TC=temperature in degrees Celsius
TF=temperature in degrees Fahrenheit
One sure doesn't ponder on the mysteries of life for long while relieving onself in those temperatures.
Experience talking :-)
