Bill, that is absolutely beautiful all ready. I can't wait to see the final product.
Too bad he won't have it for Thanksgiving. He could carve the turkey with it. :D
Hi Bill,
Awsome Work:tu :tu :tu :tu :tu
Since no stars I have to give it five thumbs up.
Are any of these tips or techniques in your restoration CD. You sure have me sold as soon as I get an extra $20 will be ordering the CD.
I bought Bill's CD and although it is very informative I am yet to see a link called "How to make weapons of maas destruction".
Yah, I wonder if that thing will fit in the end of an AR15, and would make for great field use. I could use it as a machete.
How to MAKE knives and razors would be an entirely different book to write. I gotta finish my book on the jail, first.
Started getting the scales on the working block...
Bill, I'm SURE I'll be buying the second one and I may even be getting the first one if I get that PO job that I interviewed for :D
Wow, it is looking awsome! I was searching for something else when this came up on google and I thought of this thread right away......................if the bathroom floor is a little slippery :roflmao

No wood on this one. Only black-gray-white horn will do :)Quote:

My God, that thing is massive and it's beautiful...can't wait to see it finished. Damn fine work Bill!

I am definately voting on the Asian Cinnimon Burl. Maybe set it in the middle of Black Horn or Ebony. Kind of like what Vlad did on his latest batch of scales. It really framed up the beautiful wood in the middle.
Great job on the file work Bill. I am betting more people are watching this thread than any other currently.
I found some maple burl I really liked and this is a shot of it. Once it has several coats of CA on it, I think it will look nice. The curled metal is the liners that will support the wood. I use a wood roller to straighten it out before using epoxy to hold everything together.

The gemstones came in today as well. Several hundred dollars worth. The good news is that I'll have plenty left over for other razors. Now I have to decide on diamond, ruby, or a stone called alpinite. It's a nice green... similar to jadite. I love that color. So, what do you say? Red, green, or white? Maybe I should have gotten sapphire too. That way, I could have gone red, white, blue on the tang. :hmmm:
Wewf, those are some juicy scales (to go with a juicy razor :)). Can't wait to see how those turn out.
As for the gems. All ruby or ruby & diamond would probably be nice IMO. Put a ruby right in that spot on the toe of the razor and line the tang with diamonds. Crap, I'm practically drooling. I can only imagine how much the diamonds with throw that light once you set them in the steel. Alternating sapphire and diamond would probably look really slick too; especially if you could get some of those nice bright sapphires or pouraiba tourmaline. Now that I think of it, everything goes with diamond :)
Anyway, lovin' seeing this piece come together bill. Don't keep us in too much suspense :D
The wood looks very nice! I was thinking R W and B as I was reading your post also. One of the things I was thinking of doing when you make mine is putting birthstones of my wife and I in it. Then as we had kis add them or just have a whole new razor made:) Just a thought I wanted to put out there. Of course some stones just don't go together well.
Wow Bill! Thats a tough one. I think you should ask Josh. Just say "Hey, Josh you have to choose between Red, Green, and White" without telling him anymore than that....LOL.
Bill,
That wood is absolutely beautiful.... damn.... :)
If I were choosing the gem for myself, I think
green would look the best. If I were Canadian
I would choose red, you know the red maple
leaf on the flag.....
Terry
I was thinking that this blade was going to need a tree stump for a set of scales! I can not wait to see how this razor set's up....
As for the embelishments, see what looks best with the scales. While I am a big fan of green, the red might match best. Or the lighter colors, however those might get drowned out by the hunk of metal that they are strapped to. That is unless you want them to be a mild accent.......
Tough call. I'm not use to haveing jewels on my razors ;)
C utz
I am green with envy. So use the alpinite...:roflmao
I forgot to say that the poll questions were multiple choice. You could have voted for more than one entry. Heck, the wishy-washy guys could have picked both "will" and "won't" look.
I will be getting the scales pretty much done today. I don't know if I will have enough light to take pics, though.
This is one GGGorgeous razor and the wood you chose is absolutely stunning. :bow
I woud go with a green gem. It will contrast with the metal and the scales. The red will not contrast as much with the scales and the white will not stand out as much on the blade.
At the same time I think that the blade makes a loud enough statement on its own making the contrast of the gems almost accademic.
Being as this is not something that I need to be an expert on I will vote- for the red stones (yes, Terry- I am Canadian.:D )
I did a little more work on it today. The blade is ready for heat treating.

The stones are just loosly set on top. I can't put them in until they come back from heat treating. I kinda like the green/white. Any comments? I also need to grind a couple different blades to send off with it. I think I'll throw in 2 big dippers, as well.
Anyway, 4 Bill originals coming to a country near you soon. Anyone want to get on the buyer's list? And if Josh doesn't like this one, I'll sell it also. Anybody interested in case he bails?
AMAZING  If you hear some noise from your chimney the day you finish it off it's just Santa Clause making an early visit :w
Bill,
Put me down on that buyer's list if Josh bails. I doubt that he will but then you never know.
Also, mark me down for one of those Big Dippers (I am assuming it is going to be like the first one you made with an integral handle.).
I'll have to make my own box. You can keep the ones you have. I'll do my best to make mine better. ";"
I have coached High School Speach and Debate for nine years...all I can say at this moment is...wow!

Good thing you don't teach spelling! :w :roflmaoQuote:

wow, that's really cool. Interesting seeing that scale design with the blade. The gems look fantastic too. Did they come set in (what looks like) gold? or did you do that?
WOW Bill! What kind of deadly sea creature is that? And that maple burl...(where's the drooling smilie?) Save me some Bill.
Oh and can we get a poll put up to whether Josh will "bail" on this razor? That will happen about the same time hell freezes over and monkies fly out of my butt. :roflmao
John
And if he does bail on it what's he going to do? Sell it on eBay?
I can just see the description now...
"Mint condition... never used... will combine shipping"
other items for sale
"Slightly soiled underpants" :roflmao
This time he can pierce his nose...both nostrils at once!Quote:

Is the proper name "back bacon"?Quote:

What you would call 'Canadian bacon' IS most frequently and correctly called 'back bacon' up here, but it is also sometimes called 'peameal bacon' when it is breaded.Quote:

Bill you are truly a artistic craftsmen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bow
Bill this is shaping up to 11 out of 10. I love everything about it. The scale shape makes the razor look like a whale! Awesome! A slight change in the blade shape and it really WOULD be a hump back. Can't call it a blue either because those scales aren't the right colour. Or could we? I mean that is razor porn. The green and white gems are perfect too. You're relly outdoing yourself with this one Bill.:bow

It's really gorgeous, Bill. You can really see now how it may look when it's all said and done.
I notice that the "will he look" poll is swinging way in the "Yes, he will" direction. Are we all losing faith in JL? Not that I had any faith to begin with... ;)
