Blood, Lace and Ebony (wood), Oh my!

Ok. Here are a set of scales that have taken me a long time to complete... not because they were a pain in the ass (I admit, they were a bit tricky), but because, well, I was busy with other things... So, this project has been sittin' around for a while. Well, enough of my rambling, the design was an attempt to minimalize the amount of scale coverage (I'm not sure I did that), keep the three-pin design I like, and try to make them as streamline to the razor as possible.

You can see in the original sketch that the blade-spine was suppose to be continuous with the end, however, after pinning, that damn spine sticks up a little. Oh well. They are blue plastic lined (only stuff I have, so all my custom scales are blue plastic lined) followed by a brass liner, and then the outer wood... The wood is Ebony, lacewood (hardened with Minwax wood hardener - rub on stuff), and bloodwood. The endspacer is ebony with brass liner on either side (sorry, no image of that). There are many coats of True-Oil that I am leaving as a lackered look.

The H.Boker Razor was one that was kindly sold to me by one of our more 'vocal' members (thanks!). The original scales looked to be a replacement of old (the end looked sanded down to fit). There are a slew of flaws in this new set of scales, that I think I could fix if I cared or had the energy, and would do differently if I were to make this style again. But we'll see if that ever happens. All in all, I'm pleased with them.

Now I just need to touch it up on the hone and have at it!!
