So, How Much Should It Cost?

Billl , not knowing much about the knives market and the effort required to make a knife, let alone a razor, the ball is firmly in your court, however there are mitigating circumstances..lol...if thats right..

1.You know Josh.
2. How often do you make a razor like this.?
3.The enjoyment of the gift your making, and the response
4.The Kick at some point you got from doing this..

but to name a few....when I buy a hand crafted item I dont mind paying a little more for it as usually its one of a kind, like that razor, and its awesome and Im sure will be appreciated, that alone is priceless...a bit big for my heid...lol...but id hate to put a price on it, and at the end of the day Im sure you wouldnt have done it if you didnt want to, then price goes out the window...:tu

I think given the amount of handcrafting that went into this (The whole bloody thing!) and the fact that it required as much steel as the Empire State Building, it's probably reasonable in the $800 range.

Should Josh be jumping for joy? :)

Well you know that old saying, you can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time yada yada yada well you can't fool me Bill, its obvious to me you just took some old Bowie knife you had hanging around and cleaned it up and did a little trimming and now your trying to pass it off as this custom creation.

If you luck out no one will learn your secret here and you can soak Josh for thousands. Just tellem its a museum piece. Alternatively you can charge by the weight that monster has got to weigh so much I probably couldn't lift it to shave with!

Without viewing the whole finished monster I'm only judging on the photos so far like everyone else, but I don't think even the wildest most exclusive razor should cost as much as $500 unless it's gem studded or something like that. For that reason I voted $500. Part of me thinks it's worth $1,000 or more like the best Maestro Livi's, but that's the insane part.

Value....hmmmm.. it is an original design that has been very well thought out and the execution of the design is excellent.

Based on what I have seen custom knives go for and based on your hours worked I would think that $1200 is a very low value.

This is a piece of original art work, and as usually happens the artist is seldom compensated adequately for their efforts.
But... your stature in the straight razor world has and will continue to rise... and it should.

Ok, after having reviewed the final product I am publically changing my mind. :D And my vote. I'd say it's definitely worth more than $500 on the open market. Maybe even $700 or $800. Maybe MORE! It's like owning a Picasso this thing. Josh is bound to be proud to have it.

I've seen a 700+ € (so that's more in $ :p ) new straight razor recently and it was just plain looking in comparison to this Bill Ellis Original 10th Wonder of the World. If I can ever afford such a thing I know who'll make me my heritage razor. :)

I had to go with the $1,100 - $1,200 range simply due to the hours involved and the experience it took to craft something like this. The ATS-34 was the only thing that kept me from voting $1,200 +, I simply prefer high carbon and tool steels. Now a nice Damascus pattern along with the mosaic, burl and embedded gems -- $1,500 easy.
