Pinning Question?
Hi All,
I bought a Wostenholm blade on ebay and polished it up and then I carved a new set of scales out of cherry wood. I just pinned them and now when I close the blade it is not centered, but goes off to one side and just touches the scale.
Any thoughts on what I did wrong and how I can correct it?
Thanks,
Ira
I hope these pictures help. Please excuse the rough look of the scales. I plan to add one more coat of finish.
Thanks for your help.

Thanked: 1263A picture would help us if possible. Could be a number of things from a bent tang, bent pin, incorrect wedge angle...

You can try a couple of things. It it's not too off centered, then just peen the pivot pin on the side that you wan to move the blade towards.
That may give you some relief. If not, there is a good video I saw here not too long ago of some of the people manufacturing Dovo razors adjusting the alignment of scales. Take a look at that if you can find it. It appeared that they opened the razor and used pressure (alot of pressure) on the scales while peening. I tried it and it worked pretty well for me.
I know I didn't explain that second part very well. Hopefully someone will link to that video.
Let us know how it goes.

Glen (gssixgun) did a really good video on pinning which addressed that very issue.
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Thanked: 2591you have a few options here IMO:
#1 scales are not the same thickness thus one(the thicker one) pulls the blade towards
#2 one or both of the scales are not perfectly straight, from the pics it does not seem to be the case but it could be one reason for your troubles.
#3 the tang is not perfectly straight.
The fix of problems 1 and 2 are in the necessary corrections of the scales.
The fix for problem 3 is a bit more involved. Here some tips on how to adjust, I personally use a different method but it can be explained best with pics, which I do not have. Blade Centering - Straight Razor Place WikiStefan

Hi All,
Thanks for all your suggestions. They are greatly appreciated. I added an extra spacer to one side and it solved the problem. Not a perfect fix, but certainly the easiest and it can only be seen if one knows what to look for.
Once again thanks. You guys are great!
