    Default Old Circular saw repurposed

    The other day I was walking through my garage and my eyes glanced over my circular saw then got wide when I read 2.5 HP. Has anyone ever used one of these old motors? They are not set up to be variable but just curious, the HP is amazing for the high power grinder people here. May have some issues with shaft lenth, feel free to giggle here if need be.

    The motor will be fine. It is most likely a TEFC motor. That is what you want. It is all the same to the motor, it will not know if it is in a table saw or on a grinder.

    Pulleys, they work and they are simple.

    That motor should be perfect. A set of 4 step pulleys will give you all the speeds you will ever need. You want to figure a top speed of around 3000 rpm.

    My dad had his saw, bench grinder and jointer hooked up to a shaft, with pulleys on it to drive the tools. Perhaps you could do this, and run saw, belt grinder and buffer. if you decide to go that route, see caswellplating.com, SKU MAND21, for a really good buffing setup.
