Awesome! Very cool to watch.
So, Dovo says 80 steps; I think Boker claims 120. I would love to see how some of the one-off customs are made.
I think that video explains why the "shave ready" Dovos can be so variable!
Thank you for finding and sharing.
p.s. decades?
I was wondering more about the lead dip than anything. They they seem have a loose check of sharpness I think slicing through some paper would be better.
The lead keeps a constant temperature for hardening the steel. Now we use a specialized dip of salts for that which are non-toxic.
The horn removes any wire edge that may have formed in the original honing. The horizontal power grinder hone will often leave one. The hair is a somewhat better test since it is non abrasive. You can final strop a razor on paper due to the silica content.
The process is what it is and speeding it up has lead to some tempering problems that i hear about from time to time.
Great, now I want a solid gold Egyptian razor... :rofl2:
The honing step was different from most that I've seen before. Will have to try it.
The number of mistakes and downright errors made by the narrator reflect on how little the compiler of that clip knows about the processes involved. A crying shame, if you ask me. 6/10 for effort, though...

Neil
The puns are ever worse than the lack on knowledge on any topic.
Sadly, a good many of these kind of shows, where I am hopeful about what they should say, do not produce the details that would really make them better. I have seen several metal related shows that include very knowledgeable folks demonstrating where the producers "sell the sizzle and not the steak." It's disappointing in the end because the small things they left out, or the second expert has no clue, or research reading from a text lifted wholly from Wikipedia.
