    Default reusing scales

So I got a disposable straight for Christmas, I like it fine for now but the scales are boring. I was looking at some of the "kits" on ebay as I need a strop and stuff. I know the blade are junk but can a guy take the scales of some of those $10 razors (tossing the blade of course) and reuse them? is it worth the effort?

If you got a shavette you dont need a strop, just a soap or cream and a brush. Buying and tossing a blade away dosnt sound very smart, why not just buy a scale? you can buy them separately, but the shavettes I have seen dosnt got the same pins as a regular straight razor, depends on what shavette you got, maybe post a picture? and if you should use a scale from an other razor you need to buy a metal rod and washers. You can find guides on repining here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/srpwi...inning_a_razor

If your talking those cheap Bud-K or Krieger razors for scales, Do NOT waste your time or money. The scales are not sized right to fit on real razors, and the pins are much larger, so you would have to make bushings for it to boot!

thanks Magpie thats what I was afraid of. @Callle I am planning on getting a "real" straight soon so I'll need a strop. because it was a Christmas gift I didnt want to be rude and toss it in the drawer right away. I got a hundred blades for it so I might as well use it for awhile.

ok, its a good start to learn without the need to hone and strop. And Its allways nice to hace a shavette later if you are in a hurry or traveling without a strop. I have been using straight razors for 3 years now and still uses my shavette sometinmes (which I started with). It may not be so common to change the scale on a shavette but its not a bad idea, go for a nice scale if you got the money and time.
