I was de-pinning an old set of horn scales tonight. I was at that crittical step of using a nail punch and a hammer to tap the old (sanded flush) pin through the scales. I hate this part, because you never know if the scales are too brittle (old horn often is) and they will crack. I gave a few taps, and while the pivote pin popped right through, the spacer pin stuck.
SO, I took some tuf-glide and added it to the pin area, work the scales around, and got the oil into the area, then re-tapped. The pin came through no problem!
